Technophobia in Film:
A Film Discussion Class
“Be afraid. Be very afraid.” From the very beginning, Hollywood movies have offered a frightening reflection of our deep fear of technology, its effects, and sinister implications. Time-traveling terminators, resurrected dinosaurs, alien invasions, and virtual prisons all give us a sense of just how terrified Hollywood writers, directors, and producers think we are (or should be).
In this class we will investigate popular, pivotal movies and discuss their fears, warnings, and possible solutions to this ever-increasing cultural technophobia. Discussion topics will include: “the mad scientist and you,” “ghosts in the machines,” “malfunctioning machinations,” “risks and rewards,” and “the power of human ingenuity.”
Throughout these classes, we will discuss Modern Times, Frankenstein, The Fly, Godzilla, War of the Worlds , 2001: A Space Odyssey, Moonraker, Blade Runner, Star Wars, The Matrix , and Wall-E.
Click HERE to register for this free class at LMCTV, space is limited.
You must watch the film in advance. Costumes and props welcome, and
May the Force be with you!

Tonight, April 10th, 2019 watch the 200th episode of
The Way to Go!
Hosted by Alan Bendich, the show was originated more than 20 years ago by Alan’s father-in-law, Norman Liss. The theme of his show was places to go and things to do in the New York metropolitan area. Norman’s show was the inspiration for the new The Way to Go which continues this theme with an emphasis on the performing arts.
Shows include informal conversations with filmmakers about how they became interested in film making and how they got started, how they develop their ideas and hone their craft, etc. Filmmakers are usually calling the shots and telling their stories, but on The Way to Go, they talk about their own experiences and take us behind the scenes.
